WWII

Maintaining the peace was largely strived for, however, despite our greatest efforts was unable to be stabilized. After the end of WWI the Treaty of Versailles stripped Germany of all it’s war machines thus marking the end of their ability to fight. The formation of the League of Nations guaranteed that the prevention of future wars would be a futile matter. Other agreements where also made with our allies such as the Kellogg-Briand Pact which sixty two countries signed agreeing that all disputes shall be settled peacefully. Despite our greatest efforts to prevent future wars, they have been shattered by a select few who have refused to abide by these laws.
These select few leaders have decided to take matters into their own hands, and refuse to uphold the treaties of peace that have been enacted. Hitler came into power in Germany, Stalin came into power in Russia, and Mussolini came into power in Italy. All of these evil minds that have come into control at the same time has created a dangerous formula that was destined to end with political upheaval. The depression that followed the end of WWI can also have some of the blame pointed toward it. With hard times and poverty these leaders where able to come to power with the promise of change.
As time passes on the war has not in a positive direction. It seems that as every day passes Germany and the Axis Power step foot onto another plot of land and conquer yet another country. With this uproar in the countries of Europe a new enemy has also appeared to the west. Japan has began an invasion of China and the Manchurian area. The Allies are beginning to loose power and Japan is expected to attack the United States in the near future.
It is becoming more prevalent everyday that United States neutrality in this war cannot be maintained forever and inevitably we must join and help the Allies maintain democracy across the globe. The time has come that the USA must now, in this time of crisis begin its crusade against the Axis Powers.

2009 Depression?

I do not think that America could suffer a depression to the degree of that in the 1930’s. As expressed by the author in this article, it can be seen that if America did suffer through a depression of this magnitude that society would play out much differently than it did during this time period. As written by the author, modern lifestyle would most likely become more isolated and sheltered from other people. Due to this I feel as though, rather than working together with other people, society would work against each other in a self centered manner. With this I would expect a dramatic rise in crime that was not seen in the 1930’s. Although crime was prevalent, it was not the driving factor for many people. This generation of America is ruled by apathy and would resort to a “kill or be killed” lifestyle. Again, I do not think that a depression this big could hit America again. The wealthy understand that history repeats itself, and understand now the major mistakes that we have done in the past that turned this into such a “Great” depression.

Simpson's Assignment

The comedic value was kept in place, while still keeping good historical facts. The Simpson’s managed to pull off a good episode by taking a true historical event with the ideas and terminology and turning it into a cartoon. Some examples that are seen are the Mafia, who are seen trying to give bribes to police Officers. This was very prevalent at the time and the police where very corrupt when it came to taking bribes and looking the other way at crime involving prohibition. Another major idea that was prevalent was speakeasies. These where secret pubs \ bars where people could hang out after work and drink. This was seen, and although exaggerated, still got the point across that was trying to be made. Some more distant icons such as the “Beer Baron” and “Rex Banner” which can be loosely tied into Al Capone and the FBI. Al Capone was a major crime boss who ruled over the smuggling business, and as a result Rex Banner (the FBI) steps in and takes control over the police to look into and investigate the problems.

Scene: The scene at the pet shop bar could be rewritten to be more historically correct. Obviously the bars where not extremely high tech where you can merely pull a lever and the entire bar would turn into a pet shop. This could have been made more historically correct by having the pet shop already set up and the beer being served in the back. Then the people would have come out and hung around in the pet shop while drinking. This is something that would more likely happen in order to disguise the saloon.

Should Americans give up rights?

No, Americans should not have to give up their rights and liberties during the time of war unless everyone in America is forced too. When rations are given out to the people and gas restrictions are put up to limit what days people are allowed to buy gas the wealthy and rich company owners and politicians are not effected by this. They are rich and will still continue to eat all the food they want, and get gas whenever they please without restriction. The same goes for the extremely unfortunate people who are forced to be sent off to war. The poor are sent to war while the sons of the rich and wealthy families get to stay in America and go to private universities. This is extremely unfair and if they don't need to give up there liberties, why should the lower and middle class of America need to?

U.S.S Main Destroyed by Spain, Over 250 Americans Killed.

On February 15th, The U.S.S Maine was ruthlessly destroyed by a Spanish warship. This is an outrage and an act of war against America. This was unprovoked, and Spain had no right to attack this ship. From this attack Spain has murdered over 250 American's, the only solution is war. This is not the first time that Spain has caused trouble to America. The De Lome Letter was found prior to this which was an intolerable insult to President McKinley.
